The Crocus City HallRussian: Крокус Сити Холл is one of Moscow’s most recent and avant-garde concert venues. It seems like all the international music stars have performed here since 2009, including Elton John and Sting, Goran Bregovič and Patricia Kaas, Cesaria Evora and Vanessa-Mae, Scorpions and Garbage. Located in the proximity of the MyakininoRussian: Мякинино Metro Station in the town of KrasnogorskRussian: Красногорск in the Moscow OblastRussian: Moskovskaya oblast or Московская область, the 7,000 seats of the Crocus City Hall’s concert hall are almost always sold out. You can attend a pop, classical, jazz or rock music concert or enjoy a show, ranging from the Miss UniverseRussian: Miss Vselennaya or Мисс Вселенная pageant hosted here in 2013 to guest performances by the musical Notre Dame de Paris and the world-famous French cabaret Moulin Rouge. A number of theatrical productions for children are given here in the New Year’s Eve holidays.
This venue’s only downside is its considerable distance from the city and the traffic jams as you approach the destination. Parking your car is, however, not a problem, since this concert hall is part of the huge Crocus City Business CentreRussian: delovoy tsentr «Krokus Siti» or деловой центр «Крокус Сити», which comprises a multi-level shopping centre, office buildings and the Crocus ExpoRussian: Крокус Экспо, Moscow’s largest arena for holding conferences and exhibitions. So, if driving a long distance does not bother you, do purchase an entrance ticket to the Crocus City Hall, whose technical facilities, sound level and general infrastructure are at the cutting edge of international standards.
What would interest visitors of Crocus City Hall the most? First of all, its space and equipment; as of today, it is Russia’s only 7,500-seat transforming hall which can change the location of the seats and fan zones to meet the individual requirements of performers. The two-level concert hall is divided in several zones: the stalls, an amphitheatre featuring foldaway seats and the dress circle with a balcony. Everyone feels comfortable here, from visitors to the fan zone at rock concerts to classical music lovers seated in the stalls and the dress circle. VIP guests are also provided with individual boxes and a separate entrance. State-of-the-art facilities also include sound installations, and an excellent circular acoustic system creating a stereo effect that covers every area of the hall.
Secondly, the whole territory of the Crocus City Hall is accessible for people with disabilities who can use access ramps and lifts. Thirdly, this building is worth a visit if you want to appreciate the Luzhkov-era architecture (so called after the former Mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov). This architectures is the result of a peculiar urban development project carried out in the 2000s. The Crocus City Hall complex is a fine example of hi-tech architecture highlighting glass and metal in the exteriors. In the interiors, functionalism and stretched out multi-level constructions are the architectural highlights.
Interestingly, the concert hall is named after the well-known Soviet Azerbaijani singer Muslim Magomayev, setting a high level of performance for artists appearing onstage here. A small museum dedicated to this legendary performer is also worth a look. The Crocus City Hall hosts a biannual Muslim Magomayev Performers ContestRussian: mezhdunarodnyi konkurs ispolniteley imeni Magomaeva or международный конкурс исполнителей имени Магомаева aimed at helping talented singers to get discovered. Some of the shows that have recently packed the house here include the Rachmaninoff-GalaRussian: Рахманинов-Гала piano concert by the virtuoso Russian pianist Denis Matsuyev, a show by Ivan Dorn who is idolized by Russian youth, and an incredible concert by Yann Tiersen, a French composer, multi-instrumental performer and band director.© 2016-2018 moscovery.com
