The Universal Sports Hall CSKARussian: Universalnyi sportivnyi kompleks TsSKA or Универсальный спортивный комплекс ЦСКА was built as part of the preparations for the 1980 Summer Olympics held in Moscow. The USHRussian: УСК is modern and in great condition, hosting world-class sports events ranging from the EuroLeague basketball games to the World Youth Games. The Alexander Gomelsky Universal Sports Hall CSKARussian: USK imeni Gomelskogo or УСК имени Гомельского is home to the CSKA Professional Basketball ClubRussian: Professionalnyi Basketbolnyi klub TsSKA or Профессиональный Баскетбольный клуб ЦСКА, and the Russian national basketball team sometimes plays its home games here. The multi-purpose 4,500-seat arena is capable of hosting all kinds of sporting competitions. The arena hosts Russian Basketball Super League games and the EuroLeague games with the participation of the CSKA club, unless it is summer vacation time.
THE HOME AREA
The Universal Sports Hall CSKA has two 8.5-square-meter high basketball gyms with a total area of 648 square metres. It can admit 44 people per hour. The Hall also features another gym intended for physical training of athletes of many disciplines. Children from various basketball, volleyball and mini football sports schools train here along with professional basketball players. Alexander Gomelsky, the former head basketball coach, worked here for several decades training many European and Olympic champions, such as the renowned NBA player Andrei Kirilenko.
The Sports Hall was named after Alexander Gomelsky after his death in August 2005. During the ceremonial opening of the memorial plaque in October 2006, the façade of the arena building was decorated with an inscription of his name.
