Thomas Gainsborough’s works will be brought to the Pushkin Museum from Great Britain. The celebrated 18th-century English portraitist left a rich heritage of paintings, preserved in the National Gallery in London, the Royal Academy of Arts and Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury. What makes Gainsborough’s works easily recognizable is the unique pearly coloring of his portraits. Aristocrats and commoners, courtesans and the Queen of England posed for him. Gainsborough was the first to combine two genres, conveying a model’s character through the state of nature.
