Marina Loshak, Director of the Museum, described this exhibition as being ‘deep in meaning and elegant in form’. This assessment echoes the old Chinese tradition of assigning an animal to each year and month. This unique calendar comprising ceramic figurines features animal sculptures (2nd c. BC to 17th c. AD). Dogs, pigs and other animals drawn from museum depositories and private collections, both unique and grouped into interesting combinations, reveal a lot about time to the thoughtful viewer.
